Understand Maryvale's pioneering approach to distance learning for all levels of study

Maryvale Methodology

Quality Distance-Learning Courses at all levels.

Maryvale developed its learning method on that pioneered by the Open University, and its success as an educational Institute has blossomed as a result of this choice. Part-time distance learning means that students can follow stimulating and complex courses of study leading to publicly-recognised awards whilst maintaining their existing vocational, family and work commitments. In this way the Institute gives new possibilities of access to formation and to the immeasurable treasures to be discovered in the Christian Tradition and in contemporary Church teaching and thought.

Taking advantage of developments in online learning, Maryvale's teaching method harnesses various resources, both ancient and modern, to offer first class tuition from specialist staff. Comprehensive and constantly revised coursebooks are used as the main learning resource to guide students through each element of their area of study, while the residential schools and study days provide personal contact at lectures, seminars and discussion-periods. These schools give students opportunities to immerse themselves in their subject, to use the library and bookshop, to enjoy the tranquil gardens, and to pray in the beautifully-restored Chapel.

Residentials provide students with the opportunity to meet with each other and lecturers, experience the beauty of Oscott Seminary and make use of the library. Students have access to a number of online resources and databases through the Maryvale Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) enabling them to consult current research and opinion in a number of fields. The VLE also provides a number of useful links and IT guidance is offered at tutorials during the study residentials.
