The Institute's Research Degree provision (MPhil and PhD) is delivered through Liverpool Hope University and offers supervision in programmes of research in the area of Catholic Studies, including history, literature, philosophy, spirituality, theology, Newman studies and religious education and catechesis.
Maryvale developed its learning method based on that pioneered by The Open University, and its success as an educational Institute has blossomed as a result of this choice. Part-time distance learning means that students can follow stimulating and complex courses of study leading to publicly-recognised awards whilst maintaining their existing vocational, family and work commitments.
Maryvale Institute recognises that every man and woman of every place, race and creed is ‘created in God’s image and called to know and love him’ (CCC 31), and that the equality of every person depends on this great, intrinsic dignity which rests above all on the fact that each person is called to communion with God (c.f.GS19). The Institute is committed to a policy of equal access for all its students living with disability or a health condition and will make provision wherever possible for students to be able to follow its courses.
Maryvale Institute has developed to become an international, distance-learning college offering adult courses from Adult Formation to PhD level in a range of Catholic Studies. Students completing one of the Centre for Catechesis and Adult Formation courses receive a Maryvale certificate. The Higher education courses are offered through Maryvale's valuable validation partnerships with Liverpool Hope University, The Open University and La Faculté Nôtre-Dame, Paris.
