Papal Blessing for Maryvale Conference:

Exploring the New Directory for Catechesis 2021

Papal Blessing on Maryvale Conference

Just moments before the third session of the Exploring the New Directory for Catechesis Online Conference was due to begin, on Friday 14th May 2021, Maryvale Institute was thrilled to hear news that the event had received a blessing from Pope Francis bestowed on all participating.

His Holiness "prays that by reflecting on the rich resources contained in the New Directory, those taking part will discover fresh and convincing ways of communicating the saving mysteries of the faith and thus contribute to the spirit-filled evangelisation which is the great challenge set before the Church in our time." Pope Francis goes on to entrust "the conference to the intercession of Sr John Henry Newman."

Maryvale extends its deepest thanks all contributors to the sessions so far for all of their hard work in making the conference possible and all who have attended and brought the conference to life.

The conference is due to conclude with a final session on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd June 2021, led by Dcn Dr Harry Schnitker, entitled The New General Directory for Catechesis: Philosophical Reflections and Global Educational Challenges, with speakers to include Bp David Evans (Archdiocese of Birmingham), Sr Dr Eleanor Gibson (Tangaza University College, Kenya), Fr Marcus Holden (Archdiocese of Westminster), Fr Paul Keane (St Mary's College, Oscott; Archdiocese of Birmingham) and Rev Dr Rogi Narithookkil CST (Scots College, Rome).

This fourth session of the conference, which has been well-attended by catechists from across the world, will examine some of the underlying intellectual currents in the New Directory. Over two afternoons, academics affiliated to Maryvale's St John Henry Newman Research Centre for Catholic Theology, alumni and current PhD students will look at such aspects as enculturation, seminary education and catechesis, beauty and catechesis, and the philosophical underpinnings of the New Directory

The conference open to all to attend

There is no cost to register and attend all sessions of the Conference, although we would encourage delegates to consider a donation of £5 or £10 or more towards scholarships for those enrolling on Maryvale Institute’s adult formation courses, to help support and train the catechists of the future.
