Certificate in Parish Mission & Ministry
Awards for 11 in North Ayrshire

Archdiocese of Birmingham

On Tuesday 11th June at St Mary’s Church, Saltcoats, 11 parishioners of St Mary’s Deanery in North Ayrshire received their Certificate in Parish Mission & Ministry (CPMM) – the first to do so in Galloway Diocese. The certificates were presented by Bishop William Nolan.

The course, run by Maryvale Institute, was arranged in conjunction with the Diocese of Galloway following an initiative of the Deanery’s Embracing Change group. Brian Holliman, Interim Chair of the group said, ‘Essentially, the course is for people interested in the formation of collaborative ministry in parishes. Developing parish life and deepening the faith of students were further goals. Being a distance-learning course which could be done at home and at the pace of the individual were key and we congratulate the 11 parishioners so far, who have completed the CPMM.’

Bishop Nolan said ‘It has been great to see the enthusiasm of so many who wish to deepen their knowledge of the faith and involve themselves in parish ministry. Not all have yet finished the course but all have found it a worthwhile and positive experience.’

FE Director at Maryvale Dr Marie Cooke was at the Awards evening said, ‘I was delighted to join the celebrations at this first Awards for CPMM in Galloway, as it has been my privilege and pleasure to accompany the large cohort of students from the North Ayrshire Deanery in their studies. It is inspiring to see what a visionary Bishop, an empowering and supportive clergy and a highly committed and talented laity can achieve together. The church is certainly alive and well in Galloway Diocese.’
