Professor Edward Hulmes

All at Maryvale Institute are saddened to hear of the passing of one of its founding fathers, Professor Edward Hulmes KCHS. A much respected member of our associate staff, Prof Hulmes was a staunch supporter of the Institute and its work. He was instrumental in the design of a number of our programmes, writing modules for our PGCE and MA programmes; he served as a dissertation supervisor, guiding many MA and PhD students through their work. An expert in world religions, specialising in Islam, he regularly gave lectures to trainee teachers on the PGCE programme.

Professor Hulmes was made a Fellow of the Institute in 1999 and a special award was established in his name in 2010, the Edward Hulmes’ prize for excellence in Research. Our prayers are with his family. A truly remarkable Christian gentleman, he will be remembered at Maryvale with admiration and fondness, may he rest in peace.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.
