Overview

The Altar Servers Course is for those who serve at the altar and for those who form them. It rests on the conviction that good liturgy is taught not first by rubrics but by understanding: knowing why each gesture matters, what each vessel signifies, where each posture comes from, and how the whole shape of the Mass opens onto the mystery it celebrates. Over six months the course moves through the theology of the liturgy, the structure and meaning of the Mass, the language and gestures of the Roman Rite, the role of the altar server, and the spirituality that sustains a long life of faithful service. The course is run with the Guild of St Stephen, the national body for Catholic altar servers. It is open exclusively to members of the Guild, and applications are made through the Guild.
