Join us online on Monday 21st October 2024 at 6.00pm (London time) for the St John Henry Newman Research Centre for Catholic Theology's Online Academic Forum, the latest in a series of occasional, public seminars by Maryvale academics. This time, Sr Carino Hodder, OP, will be discussing Trauma and Accompaniment in Catechesis.

Sr Carino Hodder is a Dominican Sister of St Joseph based in the New Forest. She made her Final Profession in 2022 and graduated from Maryvale's Bachelor of Divinity programme in 2024.

Pope Francis has called upon Catholics to develop a 'spirituality of reparation' to enable abuse survivors within the Church to heal and flourish. What role can catechists play in this mission of reparation? By combining insights from the contemporary scientific understanding of trauma with the Church's teaching on the catechist as an accompanier in faith, this Academic Forum will suggest ways in which catechists can develop an appropriate awareness of the effects of trauma on the spiritual life, and help survivors to integrate healing from trauma into their journey in faith.
