Maryvale Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (HIRS) Permanent Faculty

Maryvale HIRS is seeking to appoint one or more additional members of the Permanent Faculty. Such a position is an office rather than a paid employment, although permanent faculty are expected to teach for the HIRS and will be remunerated as Maryvale Associate Staff if this work is not part of any contract of employment with Maryvale. It is hoped that a person appointed would also become a Deputy Director to the Ecclesiastical Bachelor of Divinity (B.Div Programme), able to stand in for the Director when necessary.

The qualifications required for permanent faculty are prescribed in the Statutes:

They may not be permanent faculty in other ecclesiastical or civil institutions. In order to be included in the permanent faculty it is required of the teacher:

  • 6.4.1 That they be distinguished by their doctrinal commitment, by the witness of their life and their sense of ecclesiastic and academic responsibility;
  • 6.4.2 That, for ecclesiastical disciplines, they be in possession of a suitable doctorate, obtained in an Ecclesiastical institution; and for non-ecclesiastical disciplines the required degree be Masters level or above;
  • 6.4.3 That they show the capacity for research, demonstrated by publication of work in the areas and goals of the HIRS;
  • 6.4.4 That they will have demonstrated capability in teaching.
  • Closing date: Wednesday 22nd December 2021

All such appointments must be approved by the HIRS Council and then by the Council of Faculté Notre Dame. The HIRS Council would be willing to seek derogation from Statute 6.4.2 should a candidate of sufficient merit apply.

Anyone interested in applying should send a current CV and personal statement to the HIRS Director, Fr Michael Cullinan, by Wednesday 22 December 2021. Contact details can be found in the post advertisement above. Alternatively, if you have any questions or would like further information, please get in touch with Fr Michael through the contact form below:
