Daughters of Divine Love Congregation

The Daughters of Divine Love are a religious congregation of women of Pontifical right based in Enugu,Nigeria, founded in 1969 by the late Bishop Godfrey Mary Paul Okoye C.S.Sp. With houses in cities throughout Nigeria, the Sisters of the Congregation undertake pastoral work; an apostolate in schools; health care; and social work such as care for the aged, looking after abandoned babies, giving support to single parents and looking after the mentally ill. The Daughters also have houses in Birmingham and London. The abundance of vocations in African countries is a blessing which nevertheless brings with it special demands. Mother General Ifechukwu Udorah wished to provide training to thirty-eight first year novices and thirty-six prospective novices. For the necessary funding, the Congregation applied successfully to Aid to the Church in Need.

Maryvale was delighted to be able to work alongside the Sisters to provide the necessary formation. Sr M. Dominica Ojukwu was the first to benefit from the training provided by Maryvale, having come to Birmingham to study the Course for Religious in the Catholic Catechism. This prepared her to teach in her turn her young and prospective sisters in Nigeria, acting on behalf of Maryvale as the Course Co-ordinator, and with the continuing support of Maryvale in the form of books, teaching resources, advice and the quality assurance necessary to maintain appropriate standards on the Course. All novices now use the Maryvale course as an integral part of their formation. It has been a delight to welcome a sister from the congregation to the staff at Maryvale to assist with administration.
